The Sri Lanka Association of Air Express Companies (SLAAEC) was founded in 1994 through an informal association among the leading integrators who did much of the preparatory work towards formalization.

This informal association continued until it was formalized with it's inaugural meeting on 8th February 1996. The election of Office bearers is held annually. Nominations are called for the Post of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and  members are duly elected to these positions for the succeeding year. A person may be elected as President for a maximum of two successive terms but may contest again after a break of a minimum of one year.

Other office bearers may continue to be elected with no limitations. The rest of the members are elected as committee members. Though each member company has two representatives in the SLAAEC, only one person per member company is allowed to hold a position  as an office bearer during any given year.

The newly formed SLAAEC consisted of 11 members.

The first members were;
